IS CBD a Drug? Clearing the air around CBD
CBD has been one of the most searched products over the past couple of years, consumers are caught up with is its identity and more importantly if it is a ‘drug’.
CBD oil is made of hemp extracts, which are then diluted with a carrier oil like coconut or hemp-seed oil. It is a naturally occurring substance which has progressively been used in several medicinal products in recent years.
The confusion stems primarily from the close relations between the Hemp and Marijuana plant. THC, the major active ingredient in Marijuana, is known for its psycho-active effects and is classified as a drug.
While Marijuana has a high content of THC, the Hemp plant is heavily regulated by governments worldwide, and contains negligible amounts of THC(>0.3%).
CBD is extracted from the Industrial Hemp plant that is cultivated for numerous purposes, ranging from food such as hemp seeds to hemp-based construction materials, to medicinal uses. Over 80 biologically active compounds have been identified in the plant by researchers as of now.
Qurist’s broad spectrum CBD oil has been through meticulous processes to ensure all the beneficial compounds are retained while flushing out the THC to ensure safe, quality products reach our customers.
Since CBD oil is non-psychoactive and non-intoxicating, it is not classified as a drug by Indian and global institutions (E.g. NCB). There have been few reports from users of CBD who noticed feeling increasingly relaxed. Some have perceived this as feeling intoxicated but should be noted that this is merely an effect of CDB, known to relax the nervous system, and is not similar to the psychoactive effect of THC.
The bottom line is that CBD is not a drug. According to the World Health Organization, “In humans, CBD exhibits no effects indicative of any abuse or dependence potential. To date, there is no evidence of public health related problems associated with the use of pure CBD."
